Tears of Almajiri
Metaphors Theatre Advocacy
Tears of Almajiri is a socially conscious theatre performance that explores the lives of Almajiri children in northern Nigeria. It adopts African storytelling, multimedia, music, and dance to prevailing themes of hunger, poverty, displacement, and social neglect of children. Drawing from community experiences, the performers present the emotional and physical struggles faced by children forced to survive on the streets while also revealing their resilience, hopes and humanity. The performance encourages audiences to reflect on children's rights, collective responsibility and the role of peacebuilding and compassion in addressing social inequality and creating a more inclusive society.
